Wells Township Board Meeting Minutes August 10, 2020

Jeff LaCanne called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. Members present were Jeff LaCanne, Rich Cap, Colin Johnson, Flavia Berg and James Zahn.

Also present were Lowell Berg, Paul Schmidt, Tim Madigan, Ron Velzke, William LaPort, Mike Hopwood, Jay and Denise Staska, Jon Winjum and Bill Arendt.

July minutes were read by Jim Zahn. Rich Cap moved to approve the minutes. Colin Johnson seconded the motion and it passed. 

Flavia Berg read the Treasurer’s report for July 2020. Colin Johnson moved to accept the report as corrected, Rich Cap seconded the motion and it passed.

The bills for the month were reviewed. Jeff LaCanne moved to approve the bills for payment. Rich Cap seconded  the Motion and it passed.

Issues from the Floor:

The water standing in Mike Hopwood’s ditch on his property along Roberds Lake Trail was again discussed. Colin Johnson and Jon Winjum correct the problem.

Old Business:

Someone disconnected the emergency siren that has been relocated to the top of the hill. It cost the township a service call to detect the problem. The switch will be locked to prevent the problem.

Elmore Trail and Elmore Path paving is complete. All that remains is coring and repair of a spot damaged on the hill.

New Business:

Rich Cap moved to use Northfield Construction to modify the Town Hall to meet requirements for social distancing for the November elections. The amount of the bid is $31,262.00 to add door to the south side, remove existing ramp and install new handicap ramp with landings on the east side of the building. Colin Johnson seconded the motion and it passed.

Colin Johnson moved that authorize up to $3,000.00 to Kuhinka to clear ditches. Rich Cap seconded the motion and it carried.

Jeff LaCanne moved we pay Ungs Resort $155.00 for the use of their power for the warning siren. Colin Johnson seconded the motion and it passed.

Colin Johnson moved the township fine any resident that doesn’t get a driveway or right of way permit. Rich Cap seconded the motion and it passed.

Jeff LaCanne moved to adjourn the meeting. Rich Cap seconded the motion and it passed.
