WELLS TOWNSHIP

August 4, 2014

Wells Town Hall

 

 

On Monday August 4, 2014 the Wells Town Board met at the Wells Town Hall.

Board Members present were Jeff LaCanne, Rich Cap, Marlene Pohl and James Zahn.

Also present were: Lowell Berg, Flavia Berg, Kay DuChene, Jerry Duchene, Miles Greger, Serene Gregor, Bill Gormley, Jerry Huber, Van Johnson, Bill Bowe, Bill Harn, Steve Gray, John Purdie, Cory Davidson, Mary Davidson and Jerry Sather.

Chairman Jeff LaCanne opened the meeting with the pledge of allegiance.

Chairman LaCanne asked if anyone was recording the meeting and received no response.

The July 7, 2014 minutes were read by James Zahn. Rich Cap moved accept the minutes and Jeff LaCanne seconded the motion. The motion carried.

The Treasurers report was given by Marlene Pohl. Jeff LaCanne moved to accept the Treasurers report and Rich Cap seconded the motion. The motion carried.

The bills for the month were reviewed and approved for payment.

The Garfield Trail regrind project was reviewed and is ahead of the original plan. Plans were to grade one more time and add dust control and then monitor the road.

The issues on French Lake Trail were discussed with the intent to replace 2 culverts, add rip rap along the road, repair a sink hole by a culvert and clean the ditch. Jerry Sather again asked to have the culvert by his property redone and the ditch redirected across his property to eliminate the flooding he has had to deal with. He has been flooded 7 times this year.

Rich Cap brought a quote for Emergency Safety Supplies. He felt we should have 24 Traffic Cones, two three bar barricades and four A frame barricades in inventory for Township use. Jeff LaCanne moved Rich Cap be allowed to spend up to $1,000 to purchase these supplies. Rich Cap seconded the motion and it passed.

Jim Zahn reported on the FEMA preliminary damage assessment meeting held on July 16. The Township has submitted the application necessary to participate in the process. The Township will be contacted for the next step.

Jim Zahn reported the August 12 Primary Election will be held at the Town Hall and everything is ready.

The Furlong Variance for set back from the lake for a cabin was reviewed and the Board had no issue with the request. The hearing for the variance before the Board of adjustment is 7:00 P.M. on 8/7.

Residents along French Lake Court are concerned about the damage done to their road and were looking help from the Township. This is a local cart way that is maintained by the residents. The supervisors were willing to look at the road.

The Minnesota Association of Townships District Meeting is Thursday 8/14.

Colin Johnson requested that the board supply him with the requirements for a Township road. He needs it for the Winjum Addition he is working on.

It was brought to the Boards attention that there is a bad spot on Elmore Avenue that needs to be repaired. Jeff LaCanne moved that the Township do an overlay patch to repair the damage. Rich Cap seconded the motion and it carried.

Building permits for the month were reviewed.

Jeff LaCanne moved to adjourn the meeting at 9:03 P.M. Rich Cap seconded the motion and the motion carried.
