Wells Township Board May 6, 2013 Minutes

On Monday, May 6, 2013, the Wells Town Board met at the Wells Town Hall.

Board members present:  Jeff LaCanne, Nancy Johnson, Rich Cap, Marlene Pohl and James Zahn Deputy Clerk

Also present were Jon Peterson(Bolton Menk), Paul Stegmeir, Flavia Berg, Lowell Berg, Darrel Jensen, Harry Chappius, Steve Bauer, Colin Johnson, Kevin Teich, John Purdie, Lee Theis, Jon Hansen, Bob Cross, Roger Fette, Ron Phillips And Shelby Phillips

Chairman Jeff LaCanne opened the meeting at 7:00 P.M. with the Pledge of Allegiance.

The minutes of the April 1, 2013 meeting were read by James Zahn. A motion to accept the minutes was made   by Jeff La Canne, seconded by Nancy Johnson  . Motion carried

The Treasurer’s report was given by Marlene Pohl.

Current checking account balance $72,170.69

A Motion to approve was made  by Jeff La Canne,  second by Nancy Johnson Motion carried

The Roberds Lake sewer group submitted an application for a utility permit request for the public sewer system. This will be reviewed by the Board. Letting bids for the project is next week. Paul Stegmeir  asked the town board to hook up to the system. No decision was made. Bolton Menk will do an evaluation of Chuppius Lake Trail road condition prior to the sewer project and present to the board next month.

Vacating 160th Street West between CSAH 46 and 35W was discussed. Darrel Jensen is concerned that a parcel of his property will be land locked if the Township vacates the road. Lee Thies stated that his project hinges on a decision by the board in May. Due to the concern for a permanent easement for Darrel Jensen a Motion was made to table abandonment of 160th street. Motion by Jeff LaCanne Second by Rich Cap. Motion carried.

Marlene Pohl reported  on the possible  Airport runway extension . The committee is discussing eliminating Canby Avenue’s current location and move it to the West.

A Letter demanding the township be responsible for maintenance on 177th street a private road was received from a resident. The Township is not accepting responsibility.

The Phillips Subdivision ditch depth and flooding issue was reviewed by Ron Phillips. The major concern the Phillips have is possible damage to the underground drainage system in the ditch. Current plan is to leave the ditch as is.

Roger Fette of 19824 Bagley Ave. was concerned about the annexation process. He needs to replace his septic system and is looking at his options including hooking up to City water and sewer. He was assured that the Town Board would support whatever decision he made.

The liquor license for Roberds Lake Resort, Wijum’s, and Hoys were reviewed and approved.

All bills were approved and paid.
