Wells Township Board Meeting Minutes June 14, 2021

Jeff LaCanne called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. Members present were Jeff LaCanne, Rich Cap, Colin Johnson, Flavia Berg and James Zahn.

Also present was Lowell Berg.

May minutes were read by Jim Zahn. Rich Cap moved to approve the minutes. Colin Johnson seconded the motion and it passed

Flavia Berg read the Treasurer’s report for May. Colin Johnson moved to accept the report and Rich Cap seconded the motion and it passed.

Flavia presented current rates for checking and high yield savings at Reliance Bank and 1st Federal. Jeff LaCanne moved that the township stay with 1st Federal. Colin Johnson seconded the motion

The bills for the month were reviewed. Colin Johnson moved to approve the bills for payment. Jeff LaCanne seconded the Motion and it passed.

Old Business:

The DNR Grant was discussed. The county completed the engineering and submitted it for approval. The State has approved the engineering and the County put the project out for bids. Bids will be opened by the County on July 8, 2021.

The Roger Stoick lawsuit was discussed. The Minnesota Association of Townships is our insurer for liability and they have assigned an attorney to handle this case. The Attorney is currently putting together our response to this suit.

New Business:

The City of Faribault has requested a meeting with the Township to pursue an Annexation Agreement. After discussion Jim Zahn was directed to set up a meeting in early July.

The condition of Chappuis Trail was discussed. The bituminous has deteriorated to the point it can no longer be repaired. The Board intends to grind the bituminous and return the road to a gravel road. After discussion Jim Zahn was instructed to set up a meeting in early July with all the residents along the road to discuss the board’s direction.

Jeff LaCanne moved to adjourn the meeting. Colin Johnson seconded the motion and it passed.
