Wells Township Board Meeting Minutes October 2, 2017

On Monday October 2, 2017 the Wells Town Board met at the Wells Town Hall. Members present were Jeff LaCanne, Rich Cap, Nancy Johnson, Flavia Berg and Jim Zahn.

Also present were Lowell Berg, Don Langer, Darcie Swedin, Mary Harkins and Marlene Pohl.

Chairman Jeff LaCanne opened the meeting with the pledge of allegiance. The minutes for September 5, 2017 were read. Jeff LaCanne moved to accept the minutes and Nancy Johnson seconded the motion. The motion carried.

Flavia Berg gave the treasurers report for September 2017. Nancy Johnson moved to accept the treasurer’s report. Rich Cap seconded the motion and the motion carried. A copy is attached.

The Bills were reviewed for payment. Nancy Johnson moved we pay the bills. Rich Cap seconded the motion and the motion carried.

The French Lake Trail traffic issue was again discussed. The issue was discussed with the attorney for the Minnesota Association of Townships. He advised not to put down speed bumps as they are a major liability. He also advised that the township didn’t have many options on speed limit 35 MPH was the lowest the township could set without a speed study. After much discussion Nancy Johnson moved the township request a speed study on French Lake Trail from Highway 21 to the end of the road be done by Minnesota Department of Transportation. Rich Cap seconded the motion. The motion carried with Nancy Johnson and Rich Cap voting for and Jeff LaCanne voting against.

Nancy Johnson moved to have Marlene Pohl deliver District 189 school books stored at the town hall to the Historical Society. Jeff LaCanne seconded the motion and it carried.

Mary Harkins discussed the letter she received from the township discontinuing the use of the Town Hall basement as a storm shelter. After much discussion the board is discontinuing the use as a storm shelter.

Jeff LaCanne advised that the security light was on back order and will be installed when it come in.

The August building Permit report was reviewed.

Nancy Johnson moved to adjourn the meeting. Rich Cap seconded the motion and it carried.
