On Monday October 7,2013, the Wells Town Board met at the Wells Town Hall.

Board Members present: Jeff La Canne, Nancy Johnson, Marlene Pohl and James Zahn

Also present were: Jon Hansen, Ted Tuma, Susan Tuma and Chris Trubenba

Chairman Jeff La Canne opened the meeting at 7:00 P.M. with the pledge of allegiance.

The minutes of the September 3, 2013 meeting were read by James Zahn. Nancy Johnson moved to accept the minutes. The motion was seconded by Jeff La Canne. The motion carried.

The Treasurers report was given by Marlene Pohl. There is a balance of $109,338.72 in the checking account.  Nancy Johnson moved to accept the treasurers report. Jeff La Canne seconded the motion. The motion carried.

Abandoning 160th Street is on hold. Darrell Jensens attorney has had no response from Lee Theiss. The project is waiting on outcome of a lawsuit.

Roberds Lake Wastewater Collection System- Ted Tuma reported that a second grant reduced costs to residents (Full hook up was $11,000 is now between $7,900 and $9500, Stub in was $4,000 is now between $2,700 and $3,200) The first grant will cover half($1,000/yr) of Bolton & Menk maintenance cost for the first 3 years. Have 220 sign ups for the project. With decent weather the homes north of Roberds Lake Resort on Roberds Lake Blvd should be hooked up this fall.

Marlene Pohl reported that La Canne Paving provided a ball park seal coat bid. Straight spray not chip coat. $6-$7,000.00 per ½ mile.

The ditch on the 210th Street side of FarwellAve. Needs to be cleaned out- Bill Homblad  will do after the crop is out.

Ditch #4 special assesments to property owners in the watershed was reviewed by Marlene Pohl. 2% of land value is the tax rate. Land Value in the watershed is $3,286,126.00 providing a total assessment of $65,701.47 Majority of the assessment is to purchase 16’ on each side of the ditch. Bill to the Township for roads in the watershed was $157.71.

Marlene Pohl reported that Met Con will blade beginning on the 8th.

La Canne paving will provide an estimate for Blacktop repair on the Culvert Replacement on Chappuis Trail 6X16 and French Lake Trail 6X22. La Canne  The hope is to finish this year.

Jon Hansen asked why we don’t budget in November. He suggested that the Township consider this and  not be so frugal when budgeting.

The decision was made to have Dale Kuchinka mow the ditches this fall.

  2. September Building Permits were reviewed.
  3. Rice County Energy Forum- Oct. 15, 2013 will be attended by Marlene Pohl and Jim Zahn

Nancy Johnson moved to adjourn the meeting at 8:10 P.M. Jeff La Canne seconded the motion. The motion carried.
