Wells Township Board Meeting Minutes, December 5, 2016

On Monday December 5, 2016 the Wells Town Board met at the Wells Town Hall. Members present were Jeff LaCanne, Nancy Johnson, Rich Cap, Marlene Pohl and Jim Zahn. Also present were Randy Sjogren and Brandon Miller.

Vice Chairman Rich Cap opened the meeting with the pledge of allegiance. The minutes of the November 7, 2016 meeting were read by Jim Zahn.  A correction was made striking the sentence about Hoy’s being sold since it was incorrect and Rich Cap moved to accept the minutes as corrected  and Nancy Johnson seconded the motion.  The motion carried.

Marlene Pohl gave the Treasurers report. Expenses for the month were $67,175.02.December income was $62,932.60 and the current checking balance is $75,440.55.  Nancy Johnson moved to accept the Treasurers report and Rich Cap seconded the motion. The motion carried.

The Bills were reviewed for payment. Rich Cap moved we pay the bills. Nancy Johnson seconded the motion and the motion carried.

Jim Zahn reported the November 8 general election had an exceptional turnout. There were 105 election day registrants giving the township 1127 registered voters. We had 776 election day voters and 187 absentee voters for a total turn out of 963 voters. This is 85.4% of voter registered.

Jim Zahn presented a new right of way work permit form to be used when utilities want to bury cable or pipe in the township right of way. After review Rich Cap moved the township adopt this form. Nancy Johnson seconded the motion and it passed.

Jim Zahn advised that the office of Treasurer held by Marlene Pohl and the office of supervisor held by Jeff LaCanne were up for election at the Annual meeting on March 14,2017. The filing period for this election is from January 3 to January 17,2017.

Jeff LaCanne discussed his concern with the wet conditions causing major road issues in the spring. It was decided to try to get 10 loads of gravel from Kielmeyer and have them stored at Holmblads.

The November building permits were reviewed.

Rich Cap moved to adjourn the meeting and Nancy Johnson seconded the motion and it carried.
