Wells Township Board Meeting Minutes August 14, 2023
Jeff LaCanne called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. Members present were Rich Cap, Flavia Berg and James Zahn.
Also present were: Kevin Loken, Jon Winjum, Andy Valenyn, and Gary Grunhovd.
July minutes were read by Jim Zahn. Rich Cap moved to approve the minutes. Jeff LaCanne seconded the motion and it passed.
Flavia Berg read the Treasurer’s report for July. Rich Cap moved to accept the report and Jeff LaCanne seconded the motion and it passed. The CD’s that were maturing were discussed. It was decided to purchase 2 $25,000 CD’s for 12 months and 2 $25,000 CD’s for 15 months.
The bills for the month were reviewed. Jeff LaCanne moved to approve the bills for payment. Rich Cap seconded the Motion and it passed.

Old Business:
It was decided to revisit the issue of establishing the 180th Street subordinate service district in September.
New Business:
Jeff LaCanne received a complaint on the trailer house across the road from the town hall. Discussion followed on how junky that property and a few others in the township looked. The county handles planning and zoning for the township and residents will be advised the county handles this issue.
Jeff LaCanne advised that there will be a meeting for the Rural Fire District on 8/22.
Supervisor Colin Johnson passed away on August 2, 2023 and his term runs until April 1, 2024. Discussion was held to determine a replacement. Kevin Loken and Gary Grunhovd were reviewed as replacements. Jeff LaCanne moved that the Township appoint Kevin Loken to finish Colen’s term and appoint Gary Grundhovd as deputy clerk. Rich Cap seconded the motion and it passed.
Colin Johnson was also the road steward and Rich Cap will take over for now.
There is a sink hole along French Lake Trail that needs to be reviewed to determine action.
Jeff LaCanne moved to adjourn the meeting. Rich Cap seconded the motion and it passed.
