Wells Township Board Meeting Minutes June 12, 2023

Jeff LaCanne called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM. Members present were Jeff LaCanne, Rich Cap, Colin Johnson, Flavia Berg and James Zahn.

Also present were: Jesse Thomas, Dave Nichols, Krista Gillen, Shawn Germen, Joe Varley and John Jasinski.

May minutes were read by Jim Zahn. Colin Johnson moved to approve the minutes. Rich Cap seconded the motion and it passed

Flavia Berg read the Treasurer’s report for May. Colin Johnson moved to accept the report and Rich Cap seconded the motion and it passed.

The bills for the month were reviewed. Colin Johnson moved to approve the bills for payment. Rich Cap seconded the Motion and it passed.

Issues from the Floor:  Shawn German asked questions about French Lake Path in front of the home she just purchased. She was advise that French Lake Path was a cart way and not a township road. Snow plowing and maintenance are the land owner’s responsibility. Her driveway culvert had filled with dirt as a result of a new driveway on John Jasinski’s property. John Jasinski advised had cleaned the culvert but would clean it again.

The issue of semi-truck traffic on Becker Trail was discussed with Jesse Thomas. He was advised we were putting weight restrictions on that road with new signage.

Old Business:

Joe Varley advised that Rich Cap had met with him about the brush in the ditches. He was advised that we had contractor set up to remove the brush. It should be scheduled late summer or this fall. He was looking forward to having the brush removed.

New Business:

Dave Nichols from the Rice County Historical Society discussed their role in storing records and will work with us store old records.

Jim Zahn was asked to research the necessary requirements so Rich Cap could perform work for the township.

Jeff LaCanne moved to adjourn the meeting. Colin Johnson seconded the motion and it passed.
