Wells Township Board Meeting Minutes October 14, 2019

 

Rich Cap called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. Members present were Jeff La Canne, Flavia Berg, Colin Johnson,  Rich Capp and James Zahn. Also present were Lowell Berg, Jon Winjum, Wendy Madigan, Tim Madigan, Art Paquette, Justin Oakland, Bill LA Porte, Barb LA Porte, Bill Arendt, Sharon Velzke and Ron Velzke.

Minutes of the September 9th meeting were read. Colin Johnson moved to accept the minutes, Rich Cap seconded the motion and it passed.

Flavia Berg read the Treasurer’s report for August 2019.Colin Johnson moved to accept the report as printed, Rich Capp second. Motion passed.

The bills for the month were reviewed. Colin Johnson moved to approve the bills for payment. Rich Capp second. Motion passed.

Issues from the Floor:

Art Paquette wants more gravel on Fairbanks Avenue.

Old Business:

Flavia Berg advised that as of the October meeting 4 people had paid their share of the road paving in full.

The culverts on 170th, Elmore Ave. and Elmore Trail project were not replaced as of the meeting. Jon Winjum assured that this culvert would be replaced in October. Rich Cap advised he had an alternate contractor for this project if they weren’t done by November.

Jeff LaCanne advised that a meter would be put on the pole for the emergency siren and the township will run power to the pole. This will eliminate Ung’s as the supplier of power for the township’s siren.

New Business:

The township received a letter on the culvert installed by Ron Olson. After discussion it was determined that the culvert was installed per the permit and wasn’t an issue.

After reviewing the 170th, Elmore Avenue and Elmore Trail project Rich Cap moved that the township advertise for bids in February and develop required terms and conditions for the bid in January. Colin Johnson seconded the motion and it passed.

Concerns over road blading were discussed with Jon Winjum from RAW Construction.  Jeff LaCanne moved to table the discussion for a month and Colin Johnson seconded the motion. The motion passed on a 2 to 1 vote with Rich Cap voting no.

The subject of a road steward was discussed in an effort to improve communication. Colin Johnson agreed to be the road steward on a trial basis.

 

Colin Johnson moved to adjourn, Rich Cap seconded the Motion and it passed.
